SPRING LOOKBOOK!

Kathryn Cullen is a Textile and Surface Designer who admires the structure quality and scope that felt, plastic and other hard materials hold and she uses this to create a non-traditional textile application. Her working method involves using laser cut shapes, detailed etching, screen printing, beading, layering and heat manipulation to create a variety of unique surfaces.

Inspired so far by board games, architecture and science, Kathryn’s work lends itself to have an interactive and touchable quality introducing the viewer into a realm of layers, movement and texture. For her final degree project, the touchable quality works well in relation to children with sensory impairment which made her question how the availability of textiles and three dimensional surfaces should be expanded upon in order to aid learning and fun.

Kathryn looks at the application of combining a variety of materials by applying them to the interior and exterior market however the flexibility of her work could easily lend itself to fashion and other areas of textiles. She has also worked with stone and other complimenting fabrics, more recently creating a selection of wallpapers and digital fabrics to work alongside these three dimensional surfaces.
